Medical Mentors Alliance hopes to "do even greater things" in global health.
There is an old adage that has become a cliché when talking about international development. "Give a man a fish and he is full for a day. Teach a man to fish and he is full for life." How does this apply to global health? Give a man a band-aid and leave. We hope to give a man a better medical education instead of a band-aid. Currently, there are different organizations that focus on medical missions in the developing world, focusing on volunteer tourism rather than a sustainable solution. When the doctors and nurses leave, the doctor patient ratio goes back to one to a few thousand. We are hoping to create specific partnerships between medical schools in the United States and medical schools in the developing world, providing digital lectures to alleviate the pressures of aging faculty, and sponsoring doctors to improve the clinical skills of medical students in the developing world. This innovative plan will give a man a better medical education and allow him to improve healthcare in his country.
